Anniversary of the ADA

25 Jul 2025

July 26, 2025 marks the 35th anniversary of the American with Disabilities Act.

The ADA being signed into law was life-changing for people with disabilities. Here are some examples to give you a snapshot of what was common before the ADA:

  • Limited curb cuts in sidewalks, making some buildings inaccessible to wheelchair users
  • No lifts on buses, including school buses, making transportation nearly impossible for adults and children with disabilities
  • No accessible playground equipment
  • No automatic door openers
  • Limited elevators, which negatively impacted housing and employment options

As part of the disability community, Jarc is forever grateful for the ADA. With these laws in place, we can continue to provide significant opportunities for those we serve.
