Is Jarc an acronym?

Short answer: no.
While our name has changed multiple times over the years, they all became outdated and inaccurate, and our legal name has been just four letters for over 30 years.

How does my donation help?

As Jarc is mostly funded by Medicaid, donations provide everything not deemed “medically necessary” for those we serve. Vehicles at homes, events, classes, dinner out of the house, holidays, etc.

Why does your new logo not have a house?

The real question is: why did our logo have a house? When Jarc was started, group homes were the only way people with developmental disabilities could receive the residential support they needed. Now, people can receive service in any residential location: a rented apartment or house, the family home, a Jarc-owned home, or anywhere else they choose to live.

Do you need to be Jewish to receive service?

No. About half of the people we serve identify as Jewish. Everyone has the opportunity to be part of their own religious community as they are interested.

I’d like my child to receive care from Jarc. Where do I start?

Ask your support coordinator to send a referral packet to Jarc. If you don’t have a support coordinator, click here for information about how to get started. Jarc is one of many providers in Oakland County, and you must go through the official channels to receive service.

Tip: Getting started is a complicated process, and we’ve made some videos to help answer some questions. Click here to see our page of resources.

Do you accept furniture donations?

We are unable to accept any soft furniture. Hard furniture will be considered if someone we serve has an immediate need. The quickest way to get a response on whether we can accept your donation is by emailing a photo and dimensions to jarc@jarc.org.

I want to volunteer. How can I help?

Jarc has core volunteer opportunities, but our specialty is tailoring experiences based on your specific interests. Click here to see our list of opportunities or contact Jessica at jessicatierney@jarc.org to discuss your ideas.

How do your events work?

While we provide countless events and opportunities for those we serve, we have two large-scale events annually.

Spring/summer: For those we serve and other individuals and families with developmental disabilities. Community-wide event with a low cost of entry.

Fall: Designed to raise money for Jarc services. Typically includes dinner and entertainment, reflected in ticket price.
